PROJECTS


In the last years, the University Of Minho Hydroinformatics Laboratory has participated in numerous R&D projects in the context of planning and management of water resources. In this section are summarized some of these projects and provided hyperlinks to published articles or additional information about them.




1. CÁVADO - AREIAS DE VILAR

Implementation of a mathematical model in the evaluation of the impact of the water abstraction in Areias de Vilar on the water quality of the river Cávado.

10. RIVER DOURO - RÉGUA/CARRAPATELO


Rio Douro - Régua/Carrapatelo

Study of the flow conditions on a reach of the river Douro, delimited by Régua and Carrapatelo dams. It was evaluated the vulnerability of a location on the right bank of the river, to the occurrence of floods due to the discharges and operating conditions adopted in Carrapatelo dam. This study was requested by the company SIA, Lda. The study also includes the characterization of flow regimes used for different periods and the results of water levels and velocities obtained for different hydrodynamic operating scenarios of the river.

13. ALQUEVA - GUADIANA BASIN


Alqueva - Bacia Guadiana

The main objective of the multipurpose Alqueva Project (built in the south of Portugal) is to store and distribute water with appropriate quality for different uses: agriculture irrigation, public water supply, nature conservation and hydropower generation. A new web-based technologic platform for decision support (ODeAnA - Operation, Decision, and Analysis) has been developed for efficient water management in the Alqueva Project which incorporates databases, GIS, and simulation models for predicting hydrodynamics and water quality behavior of the system under different environmental scenarios.

17. RIVER AVE BASIN


Bacia do rio Ave

In this project it was implemented a technological web-based platform aimed to the development of decision support systems for water management in the river Ave basin (ODeAVE Modeling System). This platform includes the Apache Web server, the MySQL database server, specialized software for hydrodynamics and water quality modeling and SVG technology for graphics presentation in web environments.
